Student Athletes Volunteer at Montgomery Corporate Challenge

July 9, 2014 By Team Up 4 Community

For three years, the Montgomery Corporate Challenge has given local companies the chance to come together for fun, exercise and friendly competition. This year, 60 volunteers from Alabama State University participated in the event.

The 3rd Annual Montgomery Corporate Challenge was held at Park Crossing High School June 19 – 21.

The Hornets Athletics Department sent volunteers, including student athletes, coaches and administration, to help register and direct, keep time and judge competitions.

ASU’s participation in the event was coordinated by Jaunelle White, associate athletic director for Compliance, and Kenneth Waters, Marketing and Communications coordinator.

“This was a great chance to get exposure for our student athletes and to play an active role in the local Montgomery community,” said Waters, who hopes to increase the number of participants and the scope of their involvement next year.

“ASU is one of the largest employers in Montgomery, and we are fortunate to be in a position to give back to the community that supports us,” Waters said. “Next year, we plan for our students to volunteer again, but we will also have a team of employees to compete for the trophy.”

The mission of the Montgomery Corporate Challenge is to promote fitness, fun and fellowship by providing participants with skills and athletic endeavors designed to challenge their minds and bodies through the spirit of corporate competition.

All full-time employees (35 hours/week) of participating companies who are at least 18 years of age are eligible to participate.

Proceeds from this year’s Montgomery Corporate Challenge will go toward the campaign to build a hiking/jogging trail at Lagoon Park.
